OBJECTIVE: the project will enhance the cross-border governance capacity for local-scale natural events (snowfalls and avalanches) that may affect transport infrastructures (roads, railways) with impacts on the cross-border area between Lombardy and the Canton of Grisons. This will be achieved by strengthening cooperation between institutions, exchanging data across the border, and integrating the IT tools necessary to support decision-making for monitoring and managing such events.

DESCRIPTION: The CONPROVA project (CONfini a PROva di VAlanga) stems from a collaboration between the Lombardy Region and the Canton of Graubünden, with the shared aim of addressing the growing effects of climate change in the cross-border Alpine region. The increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, particularly snowfalls and avalanches with characteristics that are anomalous compared to the past, have highlighted the need to go beyond the limits of current governance structures, promoting a new shared and resilient cross-border strategy. The objectives are to establish an interregional Italian-Swiss monitoring and early warning network, to facilitate data exchange, and to provide joint training for operators, with a view to improving emergency prevention and management and protecting critical infrastructure in the Lombardy-Graubünden region.

Operation co-financed by the European Union, European Regional Development Fund, by the Italian State (Rotation Fund), by the Swiss Confederation and by the Cantons, under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Switzerland Cooperation Programme.
